Naupa in City of Naga, Cebu became more popular to trekkers and adventure seekers today most  probably because of the help of social media; towering at the height of 584 meters above sea level, Mount Naupa ranks as the 8th highest mountain in Central Visayas and the 1,106th highest mountain in the Philippines. Naga, being just an hour and a half away from home, made it all better and more interesting. Mt. Naupa offers an easy yet heart-pumping mountain climbing experience for budding climbers. It’s definitely ideal for beginners

The Meet Up

Our group decided to meet up at Julies Bakeshop, in front of University of Cebu-Main at 9:00 am. We bought a lots of water, biscuits, crackers and other important things needed for the trek.

The Climb

Since its our first time and our supposed to be tour guide forgot the trail. We asked the children, who is also a local there to guide us on the man-made trails.

The Trail

The trek was relatively easy but when we reached halfway of the trail, that was the start of the challenge. It started to ascent and since we were not ‘experienced mountaineers’, breathing was starting to be difficult.  We stopped by so many times and took shade under the trees while catching our breaths for a couple of minutes before we moved on. While following the tour guide, we passed by a quarry and witnessed the devastation it brought to the area. It was disheartening as it’s destroying the beauty of nature.

How we get to Mt. Naupa

If you do not have a private vehicle, you can either take a cab/taxi or a jeepney (#43) from Gaisano Tabunok. The route starts at Cogon Chapel, a jump-off site you can reach by taking a motorbike from Tungkop Minglanilla.

“Pause for a break if you need to breathe and regain strength. Your physical fitness will be tested but keeping your eyes to the goal will help you get there in time. Enjoy the breeze, chase the sunset, and make new friends at Mt. Naupa.”
